The European Day of Languages is celebrated this year for the 15th time on the initiative of the European Council so as to encourage multilingualism for a better intercultural communication.

Every year on September 26th we celebrate linguistic diversity in Europe, a key element of the rich cultural heritage of the continent. The 800 million inhabitants in 47 member states of the European Council are invited to learn more languages, at any age, both in school and in private.

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, a series of events are organized across Europe, but also outside it: events for and with children, radio and television shows, language courses, conferences etc. This year, the European Council focuses on teaching languages in schools. In some countries, the teaching language is not the mother tongue, thus might impose certain drawbacks in terms of educational outcomes.

In Bucharest, members of EUNIC Cluster Bucharest (the European Network of National Institutes for Culture) and the European Commission Representation in Romania invites us to the celebration of the European Day of Languages, Saturday, September 26th, from 11:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. at Cărtureşti Library and Verona Garden. There will be mini-demonstration lessons of European languages for both adults (in the Tea Room within the Cărturești Library) and children (in the attic floor). Linguistic games and competitions on the stands of the organizers of the Verona Garden.
